8 Wellness Trends in Holistic Health Blogs for 2023

Wellness trends are a double-edged sword in blogging.

When you’re aware of the trends, you pick more engaging topics and your website visibility improves. Over time, you become an authority in your niche and your readership grows.

But on the other hand, when you only blog according to trends, you write about the same topics as everyone else. The competition for SEO keywords is higher and your blog post may not reach your audience if you don’t choose your topics strategically.

The best way to use wellness trends for blogging is to get ahead of them.

Get ahead of wellness trends by:

  1. See what’s happening in your industry on social media. Social media is often 6 to 12 months ahead of wellness trends! Find accounts that are in the same niche as you so you can stay on top of social media trends.
  2. Read what other people are writing about the wellness industry. Google your blog topics before you write them. Do research on new studies that your readers might not know about yet!
  3. Ask your clients what kind of content they want to see! Your ideal client should dictate what you write about. So, ask the people who already know and love you what facts or tips you’ve shared with them that made a difference in their health.

You don’t need to be a pioneer to stay on top of trends. If you write about what you know and use SEO to improve visibility, your blog will grow. Keep reading for a look into what’s trending for holistic health blogs in 2023.

8 Wellness Trends for Your Holistic Health Blog

Over the years, I’ve met and worked with several innovative healers who use cutting-edge research and technology to support traditional healing techniques. My experience as a health and wellness writer has given me insight into wellness trends. In this article, I describe 8 emerging wellness trends on holistic health blogs.

(Even if you don’t have a wellness blog, keep an eye on these innovative healing techniques! My guess is you will see them more and more in holistic and integrative wellness practices.)

1. Bioenergetic Healing

You’ve probably heard of a biofeedback machine. These medical devices read the signals in your body to give you in-the-moment insight into heart rate, breathing patterns, and brain activity.

Bioenergetic healing machines use the same technology as biofeedback machines, but instead of reading your heart rate, they read the body’s energetic signals.

Every living thing on this planet vibrates at a particular frequency, and bioenergetic testing measures that frequency to find energetic blocks and imbalances. Your practitioner reads the results of the energetic test and helps you forge a path to healing that elevates your vibrational frequency.

2. Functional Fitness

While there isn’t anything inherently wrong with pushing your limits, a lot of people push past the limit to burnout. Burnout not only takes a toll on your body, but it derails your workout progress. You might spend months going to the gym consistently, then suddenly, you can barely motivate yourself to go for a short walk.

Functional fitness is a more mindful approach to exercise. You will still lose weight, gain muscle, and meet your wellness goals, but in a healthy and sustainable way. The trick is to balance movement and recovery.

Functional fitness focuses on sustainability, i.e. the changes that create a lasting difference to your body and overall functionality.

3. Genetic Testing

In almost every article I’ve written about wellness, I make a short reference to genetics. Got heart disease? Could be genetic. Do you have premature hair loss? It might be genetic.

It almost feels like one of those disclaimer statements at this point – “the cause could be treatable, or it might be genetic.”

Thankfully, advancing gene technology is making it possible for wellness practitioners to use genetics to their advantage. Of the over 100,000 human genes, the functions of about 6000 genes have been identified and positioned on the human chromosome map. That means that doctors and other wellness professionals can use genetic testing to figure out if your genes are part of the problem.

Many wellness practitioners use genetic testing to diagnose diseases. But some innovators are also creating programs that help you choose the right diet, manage your hormones, and more!

4. Community Wellness

Over time, many people with chronic illnesses develop depression or anxiety. Some studies even show a link between diabetes and schizophrenia.

Community wellness is the creation of communities designed to support people with a specific illness or a common wellness goal. Whether your community is your family, friends, or the people who live in your neighborhood, connection to other humans helps your body to heal.

Your community will make you feel cared for and safe. They support you on days when you want to give up and have a positive effect on your physical, mental, and emotional health.

5. Women’s Healing Circles

Women’s healing circles are a rising wellness trend. These group sessions offer women an opportunity to support each other and speak about issues unique to them. The meetings usually occur on the moon’s cycle and provide a safe space for women to heal from ancestral and current wounds.

Self-work is a cornerstone of wellness, especially if you’re trying to make dramatic changes to your health. Themes for the women’s healing circle might include inner child work, grounding, self-love, self-acceptance, manifestation, and more.

6. Sober Curious

Younger generations are more accepting of divergent lifestyle choices – including sobriety. Sober Curious is a growing movement of people who are sober for a variety of reasons that often have nothing to do with addiction.

One reason many young people are choosing sobriety is to maintain a healthy body and mind. Alcohol and drugs are not only linked to many life-threatening diseases, but they make your skin age faster, make it hard to lose weight, and feed chronic inflammation.

Many people who are sober curious don’t give up alcohol completely. Instead, they cultivate a healthy relationship with alcohol by drinking less and appreciating sobriety.

7. Cold Plunges

If you haven’t seen someone on your social media jump into a freezing body of water in the middle of winter, you must be living under a rock. Cold plunges are all the rage on social media.

This health trend is not new. In Finland, swimming in freezing water is a 300-year-old tradition. The practice is also common in Russia, the UK, and many Eastern European countries.

But like many ancient remedies, cold plunges are experiencing a revival in the age of social media due to its many benefits. The benefits include less inflammation, stress, and pain. Cold plunges can also support healthy sleep and a balanced mood.

8. Mental Health Updates on Social Media

For years, social media has been a place for people to post about their triumphs and milestones. People posted about meals they loved, places they visited, and one-of-a-kind celebrations. You would scroll through your feed and feel like everyone was living a perfect life.

But over time, reality set in. People came to see that portraying your perfect life on social media was toxic. Then, the most amazing thing happened – people started posting about real feelings.

They got online to say “My life isn’t perfect” – my desk isn’t immaculate, my hair doesn’t cooperate, my mental health forced me to take a break from social media, and my chronic illness is making life a struggle.

Social media got real, and we sincerely hope this trend is here to stay. Because this trend makes social media more than a place to post pretty pictures and sales posts – it creates a sense of community and kinship that we previously only got in a one-on-one conversation with friends and family.
